LOGROÑO, June 28. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Riojan oil producer, Javier Allo, has been unanimously elected as the new president of the Organic Production Council of La Rioja in a plenary session held this Friday in La Grajera.

The new Council is made up of 8 members, Eduardo Melón (vineyard), Luis Angel Latorre (nuts), Javier Allo (olive grove) and the beekeeper Jesús Llaría (others) who will represent the interests of organic producers, while for the sector The producer will be Iñigo Torres (wine), Cristina Virto (preserves), Delia Gil (animal production) and Rodrigo Mauleón (others).

Allo, head of a small family business producing organic oil in Aldeanueva de Ebro, has stated that “here in La Rioja we produce and market organic food of exceptional quality and although the numbers are still low compared to other Communities, each year more”.

“Organic production in La Rioja is around 4 percent, so we need a generational change in the countryside, young people who are committed to cultivating in a way that is respectful of our land; to do this we have to make consumers aware that buying food ecological, local and seasonal we are improving the environment, helping rural employment and betting on healthy eating.

The CPAER, although it had been working since 2010, has been granted the authority for organic control and certification in La Rioja since 2019. It also holds the representation, defense, market development, guarantee and promotion of organic production in La Rioja.
