President of the UN General Assembly arrives in Cuba on an official visit

Dennis Francis stressed that he has high expectations for the visit and hopes for its complete success.

The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, arrived in Cuba this Thursday for an official visit that will last until June 29.

“I am delighted to have arrived in the vibrant city of Havana for my official visit to Cuba. I look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions with the Cuban people, promoting sustainable development, and fostering peace and prosperity for all,” the senior official wrote on his X account.

He also thanked “the Government and people of Cuba for their warm welcome.” Francis was received by the acting director general of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, and the resident coordinator of the United Nations Association in Cuba, Francisco Pichón.

In statements to the press, he expressed his intention to hold in-depth discussions on international cooperation, regional and global challenges, as well as the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, in view of the Future Summit in September.

The President of the United Nations General Assembly took the opportunity to declare his total rejection of the coup attempts in Bolivia and his position in favour of defending democracy, the legitimacy of the Government and respect for the Bolivian Constitution.

As part of his agenda, Francis will meet with the president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, the chancellor, Bruno Rodríguez, and the vice minister of Public Health, Tania Margarita Cruz.

In addition, she will have an exchange with the resident coordinator of the United Nations Association in Cuba, Francisco Pichón, and other members of the organization in the largest of the Antilles, as well as representatives of the Federation of Cuban Women.
