Riofarco and Hefame have sealed this week the merger of both pharmaceutical distribution cooperatives with the unanimous support of the members of both entities. “It is essential that as a cooperative, the greatest asset is the union of efforts and the collaboration between all of us. Cooperation and solidarity are our best allies to face the challenges that we face,” said the president of Riofarco, Juan Aizpurúa, during the assembly. For his part, Iván Pérez, general director of the Riojan cooperative, highlighted that “throughout 2023, Riofarco was the cooperative with the highest annual growth at the national level,” specifically with an increase of 21.80%.

The integration of Riofarco gives Hefame an additional market share of 0.42%, a turnover of 53.8 million, 199 new partners and 50 employees. The incorporation of the Riojan cooperative places the Murcia group’s market share at 12.27%, its turnover at 1,770 million, the number of members at 4,473 and employees at 1,250, which means it becomes the third large group with national implementation in Spain. “We have to continue growing,” warned Enrique Ayuso, president of Hefame, who highlighted that with Riofarco, which serves La Rioja and four other communities – Navarra, the Basque Country, Castilla y León and Aragón – and which has grown 19% in sales in the last year, “a complementary strategic position is achieved to the group’s current area of influence, which will facilitate its growth substantially.”
