The declaration was made unanimously by the members after the rector of the University of Magdalena, Pablo Vera Salazarwill present the proposal in his capacity as president of the Andean Technical Committee on Accreditation.

The Commission recognizes Santa Marta taking into account its historical and environmental value, its cultural heritage, the preservation of indigenous communities, but above all its 500 years of history which will be fulfilled on July 25 of next year.

They also highlighted the contributions of citizens such as ‘El Pibe’ Valderrama and Radamel Falcao García, in the sports field; Carlos Vives, great reference and heritage of music; and Taliana Vargas Carrilloformer Miss Colombia, actress and worker for the causes of children in the city.

In addition to the above, they took into account the contribution that the University of Magdalena has historically had, accredited as the first higher education institution in Latin America ‘Engaged University’, recognition granted by the Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Committed UniversitiesACEEU.
