The Metropolitan Police of Santa Marta, under the framework of the new “Police Service Model Oriented to People and Territories”, managed to capture three men for the crime of illegitimate obstruction of an information system or telecommunications network.

The events occurred in the bank sector of the city, when a bank official alerted line 123 about suspicious items in an ATM. The patrols immediately moved to the scene and confirmed the presence of a metal band designed to retain the money. After reviewing the security cameras, they identified those responsible and began the search, managing to intercept and identify the suspects in the vicinity.

During the arrest, several cards from different banks, a device to retain money, a Chevrolet Aveo vehicle and more than $600,000 in cash were found in the possession of the detainees.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the criminals mainly targeted women and older adults, taking advantage of their lack of knowledge of how ATMs work to exchange cards and subsequently steal the money.

The mayor of Santa Marta, Carlos Pinedo Cuello, spoke about the capture through the social network “This fact shows the strengthening of actions against crime in #SantaMarta. We continue working to protect our community.”
