President Gustavo Petro was this Friday in Soacha, Cundinamarca, for the launch of the Solidarity Supply Points (PAS). There, he intervened to ask the Constitutional court that he would not knock down the pension reformwhich will be sanctioned on July 16 in the Plaza de Bolívarand invited the senior population to attend the event.

“When this law is approved, and I ask the Constitutional Court not to listen to the siren songs of the enemies of the people who do not want the money that we are going to spend, which is to invest, in the lives of two or three million elderly and elderly women, and in the right of every worker who meets the requirements to retire, it is given to the people, so they want to see it converted into bankers’ profits,” he noted. And he added that the Constitution ordered the creation of a social rule of law, which begins by “giving public money to those who had the right to retire for having worked their entire lives.”

The opposition has said it will challenge the text of the reform before the high court. According to them, there was “defects in the process” of this, since they point out that it was approved in its last debate by “desk” and skipped the deliberation of the article.

In his speech, Petro defended the social struggle and spoke of “Constituent power“He clarified that it is not about “wanting to be re-elected”, because He was not a “power addict”but “the ability of the people to decide on their affairs” and expressed his wish that future governments could do what his own could not: “deepen reforms and the transformation of the budget into a budget that serves the popular economy.”

“The people of Colombia cannot be sent back, with ‘Milei’ candidates, to the past, to the blood, to revive the so-called ‘false positives’, which were nothing but the shooting, by the State, of thousands of young people to make people believe that a war was falsely won. Here the denunciation began, here the mothers to say: ‘here our children are being murdered’. The people of Colombia did not even know. Here we have to see that the Ministry of Culture does that great monument to the mothers and young people who were murdered“, he said.

Petro spoke about the statutory law on education that was rejected in Congress. Regarding this, he stated that what his detractors wanted was “to create private EPS, perhaps run by politicians, to take public and public administration money, to make a deal.” The head of State asserted that it is necessary to “break down the internal barriers” in the Ministry of Education so that it “is put at the service of the expansion of quality and free public education.”

The president also referred to the construction of public university headquarters. According to him, he stated, these headquarters “are not being made by the tricks of officials inside [su] “own government.” And he criticized the management of Jorge Iván González during the period in which he headed the National Planning Department.

“The former director of National Planning was not able to bring to the Congress of the Republic a proposal that was rejected within the Ministry of Education without the President of the Republic knowing. It was that the fund that the Ministry has to build public school infrastructure is restricted to primary and secondary schools, it cannot build university campuses, by law,” he complained.

Petro again brought up the loss of one billion pesos for the construction of these headquarters, which, according to him, occurred “under the incapacity of the then Minister of Education, Alejandro Gaviria.” The head of State affirmed that he had “a different agenda from that of the popular government.”
