The inhabitants of Neiva, Huila, are upset and outraged by a case of animal abuse that occurred during the festivities of San Juan and Saint Peter, this Thursday, June 27th.

Horseback riding is usually included during the celebration, but this time it was not as expected, because there are some videos on social media where horses were shown in deplorable situations.

The senator of the Green Alliance party, Andrea Padilla Villarraga, published on her X account (formerly Twitter) the situation of these horses that were surrounded by the crowd without receiving help.

“Violence against animals in the San Pedro Festival in Neiva. These are the cavalcades that drunks, thugs, and miserable abusers defend! A parade that was in charge of the Government of Huila,” commented Padilla while showing the videos.

“The little horse in the first video was treated after fainting due to exhaustion and heatstroke. The one in the second video is a mare that, apparently, thrown into the river after dying“, he added.

How can we defend this cruelty, this mean and ruthless attitude towards animals? “Do you really think that this is a cultural practice that deserves to be preserved? We know that we do not have the support in Congress to ban them,” said the senator.

“We hope, however, that they support the project that we are filing to regulate them strictly and without contemplation, for the good of animals and public order”the senator pointed out in the midst of her anger.

There is no known statement from the Government of Huila and the National Police regarding these acts of violence involving defenseless animals.
