The presentation of the book “Chile Tomado” by the architect and urban planner Iván Poduje had a great turnout. In this work, the now candidate for Mayor of Viña del Mar makes a critical analysis of the urban development of Chile and proposes concrete solutions for cities.

Last Wednesday, June 26, in Viña del Mar, nearly 200 Viñamarinos who sponsor the independent candidacy of architect Iván Poduje, participated in the presentation of the new book “Chile Tomado”, a work that addresses the urban challenges of cities.

The presentation, held at the Viña Club, was led by Marcelo Ruiz Fernández, architect and academic at the University of Viña del Mar, Juan Pablo Rodríguez, director of the Piensa Foundation, and Rodrigo Oliver, director of Quintavisión Televisión.

«First, thank everyone who came (…) in this place today there are all the actors who will be necessary to build this city, there are municipal officials who have been mistreated, there are academics, there are neighborhood leaders from all the communes, Of all the diversity that the vineyard has, of the plan, of the Quinta Rioja, of Forestal, of Nueva Aurora, there are intellectuals, there are important businessmen, there are former politicians and current politicians, and among all of us we are going to have to achieve the task that is not minor, which is recovering Viña del Mar” with these words Poduje began his speech about the new launch of his book and concluded by reiterating his gratitude “Thank you to all those who signed for this candidacy.”

“Chile Tomado” – launched by Ugbar Editores – makes a critical analysis of urban development in Chile, focused on the evolution of its cities and the problems derived from the lack of adequate planning and management. Through its chapters, Poduje addresses topics such as socio-spatial segregation, disorderly expansion, and the infrastructure challenges faced by Chilean cities.

The author of the book shows how different political and urban decisions have exacerbated inequalities and affected the quality of life of the inhabitants.

In the case of Viña, Iván Poduje addresses rapid urban growth and disorderly expansion; the growing problems of traffic congestion; the loss of green areas; the pressure on basic services such as water, electricity and sewage; the socio-spatial inequality that has generated a disparate quality of life in the commune, and the need for more sustainable and orderly planning.
