Barquisimeto.- THE SELECTION Cuban mixed team won two victories and remained the leader of the I Pan American Baseball5 Tournament 2024, based in the Bolivarian Dome of this Venezuelan city.
Early in the morning, the disciples of the capital’s technical director Pablo Terry defeated Mexico in two sets (14×4 knockout, 3×0). There was no effective pre-start and they allowed three scores in the first inning, but they responded with a decisive group of five.
The knockout came with another four runs at the end of the fourth inning. Shortstop Orlando Amador (HAB) hit seven hits.
But if the process against the Mexicans did not show complications, there were in the second duel, saved closely against the host Venezuela by 2-0 (4×2, 1×0).
The Cubans did not present themselves with their traditional powerful and effective hitting, but they did defend very well, especially the Guantanamo first baseman Chaquira Aspiazú, who saved two short shots and avoided major damage.
The winning run came in the third inning, driven in by a hit by Artemisa third baseman Haila González.
In both matches, speed worked to make the offense work.
“It was our debut and we achieved the two victories. But we could have done better and we will achieve that in the upcoming matches. The objective is to obtain the ticket to the World Cup and the team is prepared to achieve it,” he told HIT world champion Orlando Amador.
This competition is played under a round-robin system in two rounds.
