The local hospital highlighted this initiative as very important, which seeks to identify possible visual problems and ensure the academic and social development of children in the town.

The program includes ophthalmological check-ups on some 1,300 primary school boys and girls in the city and rural areas within its municipal ejido. From the hospital “Dr. Pablo Bianchi” visual acuity tests will be performed and those students who are diagnosed with a pathology that requires the use of glasses will be provided with them at no cost.

From the institution they explained that “it is estimated that 20 to 30 percent of children present some difficulty in their vision such as myopia, strabismus, astigmatism or hyperopia” and they highlighted the importance of this joint work with the YPF Foundation “to identify possible visual problems, allowing early interventions to guarantee access to ophthalmological health for school-age boys and girls.”

They added that “undetected visual problems can cause difficulties in students’ learning, also affecting their psychomotor and social development.” For this reason, “the early detection and provision of lenses that will be carried out after signing this agreement is essential to correctly address any problem and guarantee the full development of the students.”

The agreement was signed by Governor Alberto Weretilneck with representatives of the YPF company and its Foundation; the Minister of Health, Ana Senesi; and the mayor of Sierra Grande, Roxana Fernández.
