Poto’s body, according to the Police report, was found on the side of the road in the El Palo de Calixto district and has gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.

Poto’s family and members of his community have launched several calls for respect for the life of the person they call a “community member.”

In a statement, the Association of Indigenous Councils of Northern Cauca rejected the murder of Poto and stated that, “We continue to be victims of the strategy of aggression implemented by armed groups against indigenous communities, who intimidate, kidnap and murder to our community members, just as it also happened in the territory of Miranda on February 24 when Florentino Mesa was murdered.”

Poto is the stepson of the vice minister for Ethnic Peoples, Nelson Lemus, who has not spoken out so far.
