The Provincial Council of the provincial capital has modified the rates for large taxpayers, according to PJ councillor Pablo Herrera.

Argentina.- The Deliberative Council of the city of La Rioja modified the rates for large taxpayers, as confirmed by the PJ councilor Pablo Herrera to the local media Riojavirtual Radio. According to the councilor, in the case of casinos in the capital of the province of La Rioja, the amount of the fees quadrupled.

«The UTM was updated, at the time of its creation we had agreed that the value would be reviewed quarterly. The rate for businesses was updated to six pesos and is the power of the Deliberative Council and the way of charging the rate was changed; previously it included net sales, surface area and the number of employees,” Herrera explained. In this regard, he added that “it was very complicated to calculate and we adopted the same form as throughout the country, which is an aliquot of net sales and simplifies tasks, because the rate is 0.4 percent of net sales.” .

When referring to the situation of the casinos, he said: “Casino was paying taxes AR$10m (USD10,550) monthly and the amount they must pay has quadrupled.”

On the other hand, the councillor said: «We are studying the possibility of removing casinos from the city centre, we are studying this issue, they are taking money from our people and we want to tax them. They are proliferating throughout the city and we have a scourge with this».

He added: “We are taxing them, they were paying very little tax per machine, only four thousand pesos, there are about 400 machines in the Capital. The tax for gambling halls has been increased four times.”
