Denise Bussio, director of TNC Argentina (The Nature Conservancy), a science-based conservation organization with a presence in more than 70 countries, explained that this Friday in Rawson the presentation was made of the “promoting group of the Chubut River Water Fund, which is a group of institutions and organizations that have been working and thinking about this for quite some time.”
“This is the official launch and we are doing it in Rawson because its Municipality is one of the actors that has joined. The Fund is a collective platform that brings together actors from the most diverse groups such as government, institutions, civil society organizations, and private individuals, and the idea is to think about how to protect the quality and quantity of water.”
“The Water Fund aims to ensure the integrity of the Chubut River account from its sources to the mouth. Due to the characteristics of its birth, the incorporation of rain is essential and with all the signs of climate change this deserves attention, beyond the fact that there is more and more human development, more demand on water.
“The idea is to look at the basin in a comprehensive way and build solutions together. Natural solutions that we call green infrastructure, such as restoration of banks, reforestation, thinking about taking care of the quality of cultivated soil so as not to encourage erosion.”
“What we present today began with a diagnosis in which INTA, CONICET, CENPAT, the National University SJB looked at all the problems that the basin has, and the idea is to think about what solutions there are and how to take them together.”
