Esmeralda, a work that has been taken to the most important film festivals in Europe and the United States, will have its premiere in Pereira, with screenings in different locations around the city, including the Leningrado II neighborhood, the main location where this short film was shot. This was announced by its producer, Camila Alonso Cruz, during the discussion offered by the Ramón Correa Mejía Public Library.

The short film recreates the different moments that a young woman must face when she is abused in her own home, but after many experiences she managed to grant forgiveness, even to her own mother, who at the time did not give the importance to the matter that marked her life. life.

The work that met the expectations of the attendees has been awarded in different festivals, such as:
semi-finalist at the 2023 Student Academy Awards, Tellyawards, Film and Live foreign short film award from Canada, award at the Catalina Festival in Los Angeles and at the Colombia Festival in New York.

The public presentation of “Esmeralda” will take place in the month of December in different venues in the city, including the Leningrad II neighborhood where the film was filmed and the main location of the true story, which inspired the making of the short film.

The discussion was attended by several members of the work team, as well as an audience passionate about cinema, who appreciated the contribution as moderator in the discussion, of the film buff José Fernando Ruiz, coordinator of the workshops from Paper to Screen, a space for reflection on cinema, offered weekly by the Secretariat of Culture of Pereira.
