In the ordinary session of the Santa Marta Council, the debate on political control was scheduled for the Secretary of Culture to explain the high cost of the Sea Festival, which exceeds 7,200 million pesos, in the absence of Miguel ‘El Mono’ Martínez prepared a proposal to be made on a new date, but a group of 13 lobbyists voted negatively on said proposal.

“Not even Nostradamus would have guessed this; Santa Marta, look what just happened here, these councilors here, who voted today that the debate on political control of the waste of the Fiestas del Mar would not be postponed. They had approved the debate and today, in a little move as we know in Colombia, the secretary excuses himself, they acted dumb when they sent the excuse, yesterday they also acted dumb, and today when the debate on political control was due, they forced me to propose that it be postponed,” said Miguel ‘‘El Mono’ Martinez, councilor of Santa Marta.

The councilor continued his speech by saying, “You heard them here 5 minutes ago saying that we should postpone the debate so that the secretary could come. What a surprise, what I said was going to happen, they did it. I made the proposal to postpone it and they sank it.”

“They don’t want Santa Marta and the world to find out about the waste and mismanagement that exists in the city of Santa Marta for a contract worth 7 billion pesos, a city that has no water, no sewerage, how are we going to celebrate the Fiesta del Mar dancing in the waters… there are priorities in the city of Santa Marta that are not parties,” said the councilman.

“A contract in which there is only one bidder and they chose that by hand, a contract that has a term of four months and the Sea Festival lasts five days, but they are already spending the money from our resources there, they inaugurated instead of doing the opening of the festivities here in Santa Marta they went to Bogotá, how much did they pay there at the Gaira store? How much did they pay for 300 meals there while our children here in Santa Marta are dying of hunger? “It is a lack of respect for the city that the councilors deny the debate so that the people know where and how 7.2 billion pesos are going to be spent,” said Miguel Martinez.

The councilors who voted against the political control debate with the Secretary of Culture of Santa Marta, Darío Linero, were: Jorge Alfredo Arguelles, Howard Escárraga, Pedro Gómez, Enrique González, Jaime Linero, Efraín Lozano, José Mozo, José ‘El Cura’ Ordonez, Alejandra Santos, Iván Sarabia, Gina Sarmiento, Oswaldo Socarras and Juan Vergel.
