According to Maceda, the problems began when consumers reported that the increase in gas rates considerably exceeded their usual expectations. “On Wednesday, the problem began with the claim that the increase in the gas rate had exceeded expectations,” the director said during an interview with Misionescuatro.

In light of this situation, the consumer protection department began an investigation to verify the complaints received, but they encountered the difficulty that the GasNea company was closed at the time of the visit.

“The billing showed a very significant increase,” Maceda said, noting that there could be an error in the calculations made by the company. According to current law, if a billing exceeds 75% of the previous month, an error is presumed, a situation that seems to apply in this particular case.

He also reported that his department has given GasNea a deadline to carry out a rebilling and clarify how these unexpected increases were reached. “The company has five business days to carry out the re-invoicing and correct any errors,” said the director, underlining his department’s commitment to protecting the rights of affected consumers.

The director of Consumer Defense regretted the possible lack of effective communication by GasNea with users, who were surprised to receive bills much higher than expected. “While the office was closed, consumers received the increase without the corresponding invoice,” he noted.

Finally, the official advised affected consumers that they have the option of paying the adjusted bill provisionally or waiting for the re-invoicing to be carried out to avoid late payment problems.
