Agroecological gardens

In an emotional event held in the auditorium of the Ministry of Education of Catamarca, seeds, irrigation systems and certificates were delivered to the educational institutions that participated in the training “School Agroecological Gardens: Source of Knowledge.”

The event was attended by the Minister of Education, Dalmacio Mera; the Secretary of Environment of the Ministry of Water, Energy and Environment, Gustavo Báez; the Secretary of Production of the Ministry of Digital Inclusion and Productive Systems, Fernando Molina, officials, management teams and teachers.

For several months, the Provincial Commission for Environmental Education (COPEA), in collaboration with the Directorate of Socio-Urban Projects of the Ministry of Social Development, the Secretariat of Planning and Educational Quality and the Secretariat of Agriculture, carried out training and workshops in 98 primary, secondary and special education schools.

Training

The main objective of the initiative was to provide interested schools with the necessary resources and knowledge to implement agroecological gardens, promoting learning and environmental awareness.

Teachers were trained in the construction of drip irrigation systems, soil preparation, cultivation, seed management, composting and household waste treatment, with the aim of transmitting this knowledge to students.

In his speech, Minister Mera highlighted the inter-ministerial work carried out to carry out this valuable training, which equipped educators with tools and knowledge to care for and cultivate food harvested in school gardens.

School gardens are not only a valuable educational resource, but also allow for the teaching of interdisciplinary content, the promotion of healthy eating, the inculcation of habits of caring for the environment and the promotion of attitudes of cooperation and teamwork. In addition, they facilitate interaction with families, the community and other institutions, in order to improve the quality of life of students and their families.
