LOGROÑO, June 29 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Friends of the Earth La Rioja questions the need for the El Villar de Arnedo bypass. For the environmental group, the construction of this bypass “is completely unnecessary,” they said in a statement.

Friends of La Rioja have pointed out that in the area of El Villar de Arnedo “we find steppe areas of great interest, but also agricultural landscapes with olive groves and vineyards, with a very high landscape and environmental value. It is not an area dominated by monocultures ( vineyards), like other areas of La Rioja”.

A work of this size, with a cost of 41 million euros, “represents the occupation of the territory with an infrastructure that is not necessary.” In just under two years, AP 68 must be liberalized and, precisely in Lodosa-Pradejón, the link with the local road NA-123 is being completed. The service that this variant can provide, “can be perfectly provided by the highway,” they have stated.

“We do not believe it is necessary to occupy the territory with an infrastructure such as the aforementioned bypass, when traffic will soon be diverted via the AP 68. Another thing is the need to create new connections to this infrastructure such as in San Asensio or Aldeanueva de Ebro. These works could justify the investment they intend to make,” they added.

It seems that our territory, “especially in the Ebro Valley, may be subject to significant agricultural intensification, occupation with infrastructure, but we should seek to protect this very delicate territory,” Friends of the Earth have concluded.
