The victims are Joel “R”, Brian “L”, Ramón “M”, Bonifacio “C” and Carlos “N”, some of Dominican origin, but residing in the US.

The group left New York and entered Mexico with the purpose of visiting Veracruz.

In order to do so, they traveled in a Jeep Cheroke, a Jeep Wangler and a Lamborghini.

Early Thursday morning they lost contact with their relatives near Soto la Marina, so their relatives called the Mexican authorities to request a search.

Yesterday, at 10:00 a.m., the security cameras detected that a caravan of armed men entered the town of La Marina, among them they saw the foreigners’ jeeps, for which reason elements of the General Investigation Unit of the State Prosecutor’s Office they went looking for them.

The agents clashed with bullets. Some criminals who were aboard a pickup truck left it abandoned but inside it was one of the foreigners.

They also found four long weapons, one of them with a grenade launcher, vests, helmets, and chargers.

The police continued with the search operation until they finally found out that the other four Dominicans were found abandoned on the state highway Soto la Marina to Villa de Casas, in the ejido Pobladores de México.

Public security authorities who requested anonymity to speak assured that the five foreigners are well.

Soto la Marina is contested by members of the Gulf Cartel who fight each other to gain territory.

The Matamoros faction fights with the San Fernando faction, whose influence reaches Soto la Marina and Aldama, municipalities attached to the Gulf of Mexico.
