A classic trial thriller

Lawyer Martin Vall has handled the cases with the most public impact in recent years. The next case that comes their way is that of the murder of the archbishop of the city of Chicago. The main suspect is a withdrawn young man who has been caught fleeing the crime scene with his clothes covered in blood. This young man is Aaron, a boy who used to frequent the church commanded by the archbishop and who seems to be very within the priest’s circle. It seems like an unwinnable case, all the evidence points to Aaron being guilty.

Martin will have to use all the experience he has accumulated years ago to move forward. a trial that seems lost before it begins. To do this she will have the help of psychologist Janet Venable, who will be in charge of evaluating Aaron’s mind. Little by little Janet discovers a possible case of multiple personality in Aaron that may be the only asset to win the case.
Here we find one of those exemplary examples of how to make a good trial thriller. An art that has unfortunately been lost in Hollywood cinema, but in the nineties it was a thriving business with adaptations of John Grisham and surprises like this one, which knows maintain a disturbing tension throughout its development.

A powerful case as a premise, a lot of ambiguity during its development but also a lot of determination on the part of a protagonist determined to make the truth known. Gere does here one of his best worksknowing how to maintain that unique charisma and use it to immerse us fully in the dark odyssey into which the character enters.
