A musical biopic at the height of a legend
In these difficult years for the box office it has been more difficult to figure out what kind of films continue to arouse massive interest from the public. Curiously, the genre that is responding best is the musical biopic, with that of Bob Marley: One Love being one of the hits of the year and perhaps replicating what was achieved by one of the phenomena of 2022.
That was the movie Elvis, the sensational biopic about the king of rock starring Austin Butler accompanied by Tom Hanks as his manager and Baz Luhrmann as director. A blockbuster that was causing a sensation for months, that was nominated for several Oscars, and that today can be seen watch on television through La 1 de TVE starting at 10:05 p.m..
It follows Presley from his beginnings as a modest white kid from Tupelo, Mississippi, wanting succeed playing the fascinating sounds of gospel music, blues and rock & roll to his unparalleled stardom. And from his glory years he also goes to his low points, with addictions, physical and moral decline in addition to his years playing continuously in Las Vegas.

But his life is also marked by Presley’s relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. A figure as enigmatic as he was truculent, who pulled all possible strings to manage the superstar and exploit its dazzling light as much as possible. Thus until reaching a decay for all to see.
Making a movie about Elvis Presley has been Hollywood’s desire for decades. In the nineties he started with a project that adapted his biography, but it constantly changed hands until it came to nothing. He is also able to modernize Elvis’ hits to show the relevance they still maintain. Butler is completely sidereal for give the impression that the king of rock is alive and wellgiving a performance worthy of the Oscar nomination it received.
