Much was expected from Luca Guadagnino’s new work and it seems that he is going to remain in no man’s land
This week’s big premiere is ‘Rivales’, a new feature film by Luca Guadagnino made by Zendaya. The film had gotten very good reviews that placed it as one of the best of the year, but the United States public has not been very impressed with it.
More was expected
‘Rivals’ has achieved a B+ in Cinemascore, an assessment that is only usually highlighted positively when talking about a horror film. However, the romantic drama from the director of ‘Call Me By Your Name’ doesn’t fit in there, although the fact that it is an R-rated film partially compensates for that, as it tends to lend itself to lower ratings but ends up being big hits. That was, for example, the case of ‘Joker’.
Unfortunately, It is impossible to do a relevant exercise on how ‘Rivals’ fits into Guadagnino’s filmography according to the public, since the only other work of his that received a Cinemascore note was ‘To the Bones’, which had to settle for a B.
Furthermore, that B+ places it below several films in theaters – from ‘Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire’ with an A- to ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’, which also obtained an A-, without forgetting the A it had ‘Dune: Part 2’-. For now yesIt is expected to reach number 1 in the United States this weekendbut it is estimated that it will only earn 15 million dollars when its budget is greater than 50.
