The story of an Afro teenager who dreams of being a boxer, a journey through natural beauty and the different festivities throughout the country, and the romance of two actors who question their relationship, arrive in Colombian movie theaters this week.

The supreme

Laureana, an Afro-Colombian teenager who dreams of being a boxer, finds out that her uncle will compete for the world title and the event will be broadcast live on television. She and the community will do everything possible to see the fight, even in her town. There is no electricity, much less a television.

This is the story of The supremeFelipe Holguín’s debut film, which received the Audience Award at the recent Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival (FICCI 63).

That, after its world premiere in the Discovery section of the Toronto International Film Festival, and participating in the Warsaw (Poland) festivals; Rio de Janeiro Brazil); Huelva (Spain); Havana (Cuba), where he won the Coral Post-Production Award; and Freiburg (Switzerland), where he received the Ecumenical Jury Prize.

Written by Felipe Holguín and Andy Sierra, it was produced by María Teresa Gaviria, together with Diana Pérez, Iván Luna, Mike Downey, Andy Sierra and Felipe Holguín.

Filmed on the La Suprema sidewalk in the municipality of María la Baja, in the department of Bolívar and starring Elizabeth Martínez, a young talent from Cartagena, and Antonio Jiménez, from the same city and with an important career in Colombian television, it is far from being alone a deep human drama.

Is a story that conveys the courage and persistence of an entire community that puts its chest to adversity and where humor is a lifesaver, on behalf of its funny characters, all this while showing the viewer that the “Deep Colombia” that is talked about so much in the news, is neither deep nor distant, in this case it is in the Colombian Caribbean, just over an hour from Cartagena, the most touristic city in the country.

That same day the documentary premieres Explore Colombiawhich is an invitation to discover the greatness of the country, through the history, culture and beauty of Colombia, a nation rich in diversity and heritage.

The production that participated in the 2023 Miami Ibero-American Festival, explores the fusion of pre-Columbian, Hispanic, indigenous and African heritages that has shaped our mestizo culture.

Contreras, with the participation of writers such as Gabriel García Márquez and Héctor Abad Faciolince, historians such as Álvaro Tirado Mejía and Jorge Eduardo Melo, scientists such as Emilio Yunis, musicians like Hugo Candelario, and artists like Fernando Botero, Alejandro Obregón and Enrique Grau.

Dark Saturday

The trio of Colombian productions completes it dark saturdaya romantic drama directed by Marco Vélez Esquivia, written by Juliana Ospina, produced by Lina Ortiz and Alejandro Zapata Munévar.

Starring Ana Isabel Castillo and David Moncada, it tells the story of Miguel and his girlfriend Isabel, two theater and television actors respectively. One day, his dog Fincher becomes seriously ill and needs surgery with a high risk of mortality. While they wait at home, tension grows between them and they discuss their differences in their careers, money, and dreams.
