After playing the villain Cormac O’Connor in the universe miniseries John Wick, The Continental, Mel Gibson (Deadly weapon) is preparing to star in an upcoming police thriller alongside Curtis 50 Cent Jackson. Boneyard is loosely inspired by the infamous real-life murderer known as the Bone Collectorthe alleged perpetrator of the West Mesa crimes in New Mexico.
The story of this film revolves around Petrovick (Gibson), an FBI special agent who is recruited to profile the serial killer, after Police Chief Carter (jackson) discovers the remains of eleven women. As the police, the narcotics agency and the FBI become entangled with each other, the situation ends up turning everyone into potential suspects.
The West Mesa murders refer to the crimes against 11 women, whose remains were found buried in 2009 in a desert south of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In this real-life case, several suspects were identified, but none were arrested or charged. Subsequently, the theory that a single serial killer was responsible for all the crimes began to lose strength. As time went by, the belief gained ground that it could have been an episode of something much larger related to human sex trafficking.
In addition to Mel Gibson in the main role, Boneyard It is directed by Asif Akbar (The Commando), who also plans to release the film Skeletons in the Closet starring Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr. at the end of this year. The script for this feature film was co-written by Akbar and Vincent E. McDanielbased on a story developed by the latter.
Boneyard will have a limited release in theaters in the United States on June 5. A month later, on July 2 specifically, it will become available on On Demand services. At the moment, it is unknown what its distribution will be in Latin America and Spain.
