“How the hell did George Miller do this?” Edgar Wright gives in to ‘Furiosa’ and explains why the only film he can compare it to is ‘Ben Hur’

The director has revealed how the casting of Anya Taylor-Joy was thanks to his film ‘Last Night in Soho’

Edgar Wright usually comments on movies on Twitter, both classics and recent films, and on May 7, https://twitter.com/edgarwright/status/1787860396441014443 the social network to publish a long review about ‘Furiosa’, George Miller’s next film that serves as a prequel to ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and will debut in Cannes before opening in theaters on May 24, arriving with overwhelmingly positive first reactions.

An incomparable film

In his long comment, he states that although he understands what it costs to make a film, I still don’t understand how George Miller does it:

“I was lucky enough to see ‘Furiosa’ a month ago, and I still don’t understand how movies like yours exist. It’s so intricate, detailed and immersive. The planning and love that has gone into the staging, blocking and The design is simply unreal. My hat goes off to George and his team for bringing us 45 years of imaginative and visceral cinema. The film is a feast for the eyes and ears, a full circle to Max’s first adventure in 1979.”

The director of ‘Shaun of the Dead’ also explains that the subtitle, ‘A Mad Max Saga’, is not wrong, since It is a long epic of revenge, more than a chase movie like ‘Fury Road’.

“The closest comparison would be something like ‘Ben Hur,’ where a long fuse of revenge burns for years and pays off in (no spoiler) the sweetest revenge. Filmmakers and fans alike will walk away from this with their heads spinning. I felt inspired and envious at the same time. There was a moment, halfway through the movie, when I leaned over to a friend and said, ‘How the hell did he do this?'”

He also praised the cast, including Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke and, of course, Anya-Taylor Joy, explaining that he is in the film thanks to his work in ‘Last night in Soho’:

“Back in March 2020, literally 48 hours before the pandemic hit and the country went into lockdown, I had dinner with George Miller in London after he saw an early cut of ‘Last Night in Soho.’ He asked me if Anya would be a good choice to play young Furiosa, and I said, “Do it, do it! She’s a star, get her now. That night I texted Anya saying I was expecting a call from George Miller, and I’m delighted to see it.” the results four years later. What a journey, you will enjoy!”
