The movie The aroma of freshly cut grass is directed by Celina Murga and stars Furriel and Oscar nominee Marina de Tavira (Rome); at the same time it is executive produced by Martin Scorsese and will be presented this Saturday, June 8 at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. The cast is completed with Alfonso Tort, Romina Peluffo, Emanuel Parga and Verónica Gerez. According to a note published in the magazine VarietylThe film focuses on two couples who have extramarital affairs and how, despite having the same professional position, they are treated differently due to their gender.
“I like when movies make us question ourselves instead of giving us simple answers. ‘The aroma of freshly cut grass‘ seeks to reflect on the complex nature of loving bonds in long-term relationships and what a family is today from the point of view of each gender. But it also wants to shed light on how the actions of each gender are in some way conditioned by social mandates,” Murga remarked to Variety. The film is a co-production between Argentina (Mostra Cine | Tresmilmundos Cine), USA/UK (Infinity Hill), Mexico (Dopamine), Uruguay (Nadador Cine) and Germany (Weydemann Bros), and was shot on location in Buenos Aires (Argentina ) and Montevideo (Uruguay).
For his part, the film’s producer Axel Kuschevatzky noted: “It’s a movie about relationships, but it’s actually structured like a thriller. As in a Fritz Lang film, the characters cannot fight against fate; They have to face its inevitability. “Celina Murga is clearly one of Latin America’s leading filmmakers and this film finds her at the top of her wonderful game, delving into the complexities of marriage.” This isn’t the first time Scorsese has tackled a Murga film. He was introduced to his previous work while participating in Rolex’s artistic mentoring program. He was also an executive producer of his drama The Third Side of the River (2014), distributed by The Match Factory and selected to compete at the Berlinale.
