It has been about five years since the Chilean social outbreak that occurred on October 18, 2019. And from this, filmmaker Carlos Araya made the documentary He who dances passeswhich is why he spoke with Citizen ADN.
“It starts from the first weeks of the outbreak, where the internet was filled with images with different motivations and objectives and I started collecting those images without knowing if they were going to become a film or not.”Araya commented at the beginning of the conversation.

Along the same lines, the documentary filmmaker mentioned that in He who dances passes realizes that peopleThey became a kind of chroniclers of what was happening”.
“Something that is difficult for us to define appears a lot in those files: what is Chilean. Our identity appears as a very important second layer and people somehow think they will see a serious and dense film, but no. It is a film that surprises with a lot of humor”, described the director of the feature film.
A movie in Instagram format
In the same way, Araya referred to the role of social networks within his work, taking into consideration that Part of the film is made based on archival material obtained through the Internet.
“It is a vertical format film and that is the first surprise that people get in the theaters,” explained the director, who also pointed out that he took advantage of the aesthetics of social networks.
“The hashtag is integrated, the text appears as if it were an Instagram story and in some sequences of the film censorship measures that Instagram applies and that play with what you want to see are used. It is a film that has mixes of registers”, he mentioned.
On the other hand, filmmaker Carlos Araya shared with Ciudadano ADN that the film will have two forums this June 14 at Cineteca and at the Cine Arte Alameda in the Sala Ceina, while next week it will have another discussion at the National Cinematheque with Felipe Cussen.
