Blue Beetle will be part of James Gunn’s DC universe

It is confirmed that the DCEU character, Blue Beetle, played by Xolo Maridueña, will return with a series to be part of James Gunn’s DCU

One of the DCEU’s newest heroes is getting his own DC Universe TV show through DC Studios with an animated series of Blue Beetle Developing. While it may not have been a box office success, the film Blue Beetle 2023 release became the best-received DC superhero release of the films released in the past three years. As DC Studios moves forward into the DC Universe of James Gunn, the co-CEO made it clear that Jaime Reyes of Xolo Maridueña would be part of the new franchise.

Deadline reveals that DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery are currently in early development on an animated series Blue Beetle with Miguel Puga working as showrunner and director. Cristian Martínez will write the series Blue Beetle, while the film’s director, Ángel Manuel Soto, and screenwriter Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer will be the executive producers of the program. At this time, none of the film’s actors Blue Beetle is linked since “many things are still in the works, including contracts for any main cast”but Deadline points out that “several have been contacted and DC has received a positive response regarding the returns.”

How the animated series Blue Beetle Can it fit into the DC universe?

According to Deadline, the television show Blue Beetle “will be based on the movie” and “it won’t tell the same story.” Given the Blue Beetle was made in a different era of Warner Bros., Gunn had no creative involvement, even though the 2023 film was able to stand on its own without necessarily feeling like a DCEU installment. While Blue Beetle focuses on retroactively fitting into the new DC Universe, there are numerous ways the animated series can tie into the franchise.

Since the movie superman Gunn’s animated series premieres next summer Blue Beetle could easily be picked up sometime after the adventure starring David Corenswet, as it follows Jaime now surrounded by heroes in the world. Maridueña has even stated that he wants to see Blue Beetle in the DC Universe and get involved with Peacemaker by John Cena. The animated program Blue Beetle fcould easily create a natural point for Jaime to eventually appear in Peacemaker in a future season.

The Serie Blue Beetle could also gently prepare the live action program of Booster Gold by finally addressing the big Ted Kord mystery at the end of the film. With Ted’s links to Booster Gold in the comics, the animated show Blue Beetle it could also, naturally, draw him and Jaime into the fold. Hopefully more news about the series will come.
