With more than 340 million dollars raised and a nomination at the Oscars, A peaceful place (2018) laid the first stone of the quietest apocalypse in horror cinema. Its sequel to 2020with the signing of Cillian Murphydelved deeper into the aliens’ landing on Earth and the subsequent chaos, bringing back the characters played by John Krasinski and Emily Blunt.
Krasinski, who also wrote, directed and produced the first two installments, now hands over the director’s chair to Michael Sarnoski (Pig), although he is in charge of constructing the script for the new film. Under the title A quiet place: Day 1this prequel is now arriving in Spanish cinemas to present the story of Sam, a terminally ill woman who meets Eric (Joseph Quinn) in the midst of an alien catastrophe, and whose goal is to save her cat and eat pizza for the last time.
Moving stealthily through the streets of New York, the character played by Lupita Nyong’o (Us, Little Monsters) becomes one of the keys to the future of this saga, whose ending gives us clues as to what we might see in a possible fourth installment.
Explained ending of ‘A Quiet Place: Day 1’
Sarnoski He laughs at those who claim that ‘you can’t love a pet as much as a person’. After getting Sam and Eric into various troubles, the kitten Frodo becomes the axis of the outcome of A quiet place: Day 1. She She has no reason to survive in a world where she is doomed to pain. Due to the lack of medications and treatments to alleviate his terminal cancer, he decides to spend his last breath fulfilling his last dreams in the city of skyscrapers.
The Eric’s appearance and the tenderness he awakens in her causes her plans to change, taking advantage of the situation to put his cat to safety on one of the boats that are fleeing the city, after the bridges have been bombed to block the aliens. A series of explosions with little success, since most of the big cities in the USA have already been infested by these creatures, as can be seen in the radio sequence in the puppet theatre.
Sam finally decides to sacrifice himself for Eric, but above all for his cat., since he has nothing to lose and knows that his end is near. Thus, they decide to develop a ploy to entertain the aliens. While Eric runs towards the boats south of New York City, following the message shared by authorities from helicopters, She makes as much noise as possible. An adrenaline-filled moment that is about to be frustrated, but that Eric overcomes by jumping into the water in extremis, since the creatures do not know how to swim.
Finally, Eric manages to get on the boat in which Henri (Djimon Hounsou) is traveling.whom we knew in A quiet place 2 and that did not end very well after the arrival of Emmett (Cillian Murphy) and Regan (Millicent Simmonds) to their island, unintentionally bringing with them one of the creatures in one of the boats. Everything points to that Eric would have initially been one of the survivors in this earthly paradisealthough we did not see him in the second installment.
For his part, and after saving Frodo and enjoying the last memories he had with his beloved father, Sam decides to end his suffering to the rhythm of the highly covered song Feeling Good –written by the British Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse -, expressing the vital moment and the peace of mind he maintains before saying goodbye to everyone. A goodbye that, even if we don’t see it, would surely occur after disconnecting the helmets that made her invisible to the aliens.
The Henri Island connection and the second film
In this ending, in which we also witness how She gives her jacket to Eric so that her kitty doesn’t miss his smell. and so that he survives minimally in the future of humanity, we see how he gets excited when reading the letter that Sam leaves him. Likewise, the ending connects directly with the events that occurred in the first two installments, especially with the conversation between Emmett (Murphy) and Henri in A quiet place 2.
“We’ve been here since that day. We arrived just like you. We were in the city when we heard the hurricane sirens. When we learned that they were not swimming, the National Guard received orders to start loading people onto the boats. “Any ship they found…” Henri’s character said in the second installment. Everything we see in this prequel.
“As soon as someone saw a boat to get to safety, well… everyone tried to elbow their way onto it. And then they started screaming. They had twelve boats tied up at the dock that day. “Only two of them got out,” he added. This shows the chaos in the stampede of people to the south of the city and how, together with his wife and son, he managed to leave the city where he and Sam were enjoying the puppet show.
In this way, and after discovering how these ultrasound-sensitive creatures could be killed in the first two films, Eric could be part of the new wave of survivors who take control of the cities again, knowing a little more about him after the prequel.
