Prime Video’s new hit is a movie that was released in theaters just 3 months ago. This road movie is Amazon’s number 1 since its streaming debut

The public turned their backs on him in theaters but now he has found a new opportunity to succeed

It is becoming increasingly clear that some viewers prefer to wait for the streaming release of films that first appear in theaters. We have a new example of this with ‘Birds’a feature film that failed in theaters and has been number 1 on Amazon Prime Video in Spain since the first day of its arrival on the platform.

A curious road movie

Co-written and directed by Pau Dura, ‘Pájaros’ is a road movie that mixes drama and comedy to tell the story of two very different characters. On the one hand we have Colombo, an underpaid worker at a 24-hour garage who earns extra by dealing marijuana. On the other hand, there is Mario, a bird enthusiast who hires Colombo as a driver to go see cranes on the Costa Brava, but once there he discovers that he will have to travel to Romania to see them.

‘Birds’ premiered in Spanish cinemas on March 28, and it cannot be said that it received a very enthusiastic reaction from the public: only 83,000 spectators went to see it and managed to raise less than 500,000 euros. It cannot be said that these are great figures for a feature film with a budget of 2.6 million euros.

It is evident that the great hook of the film is in its leading duo, with Javier Gutierrez (‘The minimum island’) playing Colombo and Luis Zahera (‘As Bestas’) becoming Mario. I think his presence has been enough to encourage many to give him a chance on Amazon Prime Video that he didn’t get on the big screen.
