Afraid of cats?

One of the most surprising revelations about the preparation of Nyong’o for this role was his need to overcome a personal fear: cats. Sam’s character is accompanied by his cat, Frodo. This detail was a significant challenge for Nyong’owho initially tried to persuade the director to change the animal.

When I read the script, I loved the character and the story Michael was telling. But the cat was a problem for me. I went to cat therapy. They brought cats to my house. It started with two, and the first day they just let the cats roam around me and I asked the woman who brought the cats why they were doing certain things. The next day, I touched one with my finger and slowly became comfortable enough to hold a cat through this movie.

This adaptation process not only allowed Nyong’o working comfortably with his feline companion on set, but it also gave him a new appreciation and understanding of these animals, demonstrating his dedication and commitment to his craft.
