The abandonment of Zayn Malik of one direction It’s still going strong even almost a decade later. Partly because the artist has spoken rather little about the situation until today; partly because with Zayn There is not much more to talk about, considering that he has published albums that he has not promoted and has taken photos for the Vogue before returning home and taking a shower after intense work.

But the release of his new album, ‘Room Under The Stairs’ -scheduled for May 17- has made him move his nerves a little and this time he is stopping by some (few) more corners to promote his new music. Among those things that the boy has done includes an interview for the Evening Standard, where he has confessed that There was never an emotional downturn in his One Direction stage and he did not write the farewell statement:

«I’m going to ask you a question: do you think I wrote that? I mean, look at how it’s written. I was not a 35-year-old lawyer. I didn’t write like that. The exit was choreographed. There was never a breakdown. Not a low moment, it was more of a feeling of continuous apathy. The days were designed so that you didn’t have a minute to think because I was super focused on work. I lost knowledge of what time it was, even what day it was sometimes.

It is curious that he explains that this was so, because considering his hermit attitude after the release – he never promoted anything beyond his first single – anyone would think that he was really in a situation of deep anxiety. Of course, it is also true that possibly, if that had been the case, his career would not have started so quickly.

This is how he explains Zayn in the interview how he experienced the moment of sudden fame of one direction:

«I was very ignorant at 17, I was totally blind. I thought getting on ‘The X Factor’ meant you’d make millions of pounds and get a contract when you finished. And it was like “damn, all my problems are solved. I win a million and that’s it. Simple.”. But you don’t think about everything else that comes with it. You’re only 17, your dreams are immature: you see what you want to see.

If I had to give myself advice, I would say, “Don’t do it. Do some research and prepare for some situations that may arise before making a decision. I am super grateful for everything that happened. But possibly I wouldn’t have signed, I would have waited a couple more years. Just to have time to establish myself as a ‘famous person’. I have never lived as an anonymous person. If I went back in time, I would have enjoyed a few more years of anonymity.

What a man, he was 17 years old, it’s true, but he was old enough to have seen what happened to Will Young, Hear’Say, Leona Lewis, Olly Murs, JLS... in short, a resume of hits from British television from which, as a pre-adolescent and adolescent, it is difficult for us to believe that he escaped. But we can understand that he was not able to measure it.
