Before Taylor Swift announced at the 2024 Grammy Awards that she would release a new album in April, Internet sleuths were scouring her entire fall wardrobe for evidence that Reputation (Taylor’s version) would be the singer’s next project, something very understandable considering the ability Swift has acquired over the years to hide subliminal messages in everything, from her social media captions to her looks red carpet, but it turns out they were looking for the wrong clues…
While many posts highlighted Swift’s recent lean toward a more aesthetic preppy, as university-inspired, the artist used the diamond sweaters as a distraction maneuver to camouflage multiple clues about the song list of The Tortured Poets Department on your clothes from October 2023!
Since the album’s release on April 19, Sarah Chapelle of the @taylorswiftstyled account has been digging through her archives and pulling out references to The Tortured Poets Department that were hiding in plain sight even before Swift wore “The Albatross” dress to the Grammys in March.
· Clue number one: the Aimee hair clip
To begin with, Chapelle noticed that Swift was wearing a hair clip from the hair clip set. Aimee from Anthropologie for a girls’ night out with Selena Gomez in October 2023. In fact, the dinner took place on October 19, 2024, exactly six months before the release of the new album.
The accessory would reference the song ‘thanK you aIMee’, which would be about his dispute with Kim Kardashian. Swift has also worn a clip from the set in one of her latest Stories posts.
· Clue number two: the Cassandra bag
The next clue would be Saint Laurent’s ‘Cassandra’ shoulder bag, which is reportedly named after the man who designed the YSL logo: Adolphe Mouron Cassandre. When Swift sported the bag during a November outing with Gracie Abrams, Chapelle thought it was a reference to Reputation and… He didn’t stray far from the truth.
