THE ALBUM THAT ROGER DALTREY WAS PASSIONATE AND ALWAYS SAID IT WAS THE BEST

Roger Daltrey has repeatedly embraced the pleasures of folk-rock music. Although the singer never really explored that style of genre during his time with The Who, it makes up the vast majority of his listening habits. To be fair, if you’re the lead singer of one of the most legendary rock and roll bands of all time, Sitting and listening to Motörhead is probably something of a vacation for a bus man.

In an interview he revealed:

“I rarely listen to rock music at home: the last rock record I listened to properly at home was Music from Big Pink by The Band.”

One of his songs, masterpiece:

Formed in 1967, at the height of the hippie era, The Band combined a variety of styles, including folk and jazz, creating a fairly unique sound. It was the band of Bob Dylan The confusingly named ensemble was incredibly influential on several artists, including Eric Clapton and The Grateful Dead.

However, Daltrey seems to have a deeper appreciation for The Band than most, going so far as to call their 1968 debut project “one of the greatest albums ever created.”

And explains:

“It has a real sense of freedom, it’s incredibly incredible.” loose and incredibly tight at the same time.”

That explanation is equally appropriate for much of The Who’s material, which was technically proficient and very natural sounding. The Band, howeverwere generally much calmer than The Who; They would never be caught smashing their instruments at the end of a show, or blowing up a bass drum on American television.

Despite the sound disparities between The Band and The Who, Daltrey’s appreciation for the Toronto group is clear. Previously, on BBC Radio Two, she embraced the pleasures of Big Pink’s music and said:

What an album! “I met The Band with Bob Dylan when they supported him on his tour in Belfast.” AND explaining:

I thought ‘This is going to be something.’ When I listened to this album, Music from Big Pink, this song in particular, ‘The Weight’ the musicality, there’s a relaxed looseness. The sound is simply wonderful.”

It’s certainly hard to disagree with Daltrey on this issue – unlike most of the other topics he regularly discusses in interviews – as The Band’s debut is regularly hailed among the best albums of the 1960s. This is certainly no small feat considering the volume of groundbreaking art that was released in that decade, but . Music from Big Pink certainly earns its place.
