Over the years, Metallica was crowned as one of metal’s flagship groups. From their debut album Kill ‘Em All until its most recent release published last year, 72 Seasonsthe group has evolved strongly.
For this reason, his opinion when talking about other bands of the genre causes a stir among fans of the scene. An example are the last statements of the guitarist Kirk Hammettwho named a friendly group as the “architects of what we now know as heavy metal”.
The statement by Metallica’s lead guitarist took place on May 25 at a question and answer session in Munich, Germany, where he was accompanied by bassist Robert Trujillo and the band’s historic photographer, Ross Halfin. When they showed a photo of Hammett with James Hetfield watching Judas Priest At the 2023 Power Trip festival, Kirk said:
“We were worshiping at the altar of Judas Priest (…) His music means a lot to us. And the way Glenn Tipton and KK Downing played guitars… I mean, they are architects of what we now know as heavy metal, plain speaking. And James and I love Priest.”
About the experience of seeing Judas Priest live, the guitarist added: “We don’t really get the chance to see bands many times when we’re playing a big festival.because we are always backstage doing press, preparing for the show, rehearsing or whatever.”
