A fact that confirms this theory is that a photo recently came to light of the first Iowa logo drawn by the missing musician on the old desk that his father gave him.
Thanks to a post from his family on social networksnow we can see the first logo of Slipknot “with a tribal S” which was drawn by Joey Jordison. This symbol was designed by the late drummer, who also helped come up with the band’s name in 1995. The logo has become part of the image and culture around the combo over the years.
The drummer confessed this same thing in an interview for Kerrang! in 2017: “I have tons of folders with sketches and logos from almost every band I’ve ever been in. I drew the Slipknot logo and the tribal “S.” I drew that logo on my dad’s old desk in the house I grew up in. He had a little piece of paper and I drew it with pen and ink. He stained the desk. I took it to band rehearsal and they loved it. Almost half the band got it tattooed before we signed a contract.”.
Precisely, the family of Jordison shared a photo of that exact desk drawing in a post on your Instagram accountwhich they created in July 2022 to celebrate his life and career, and accompanied it with these words: “The first tribal “S” drawn by Joey on the desk his father bequeathed him. To the fans, thank you for always supporting and loving Joey. You meant the world to him. We love you Joey. Forever our number one”.
A few fans were quick to comment on the post that they had the logo tattooed on their arm, which is indicative of the impact of Jordison in the legacy of Slipknot. That, plus the fact that he came up with the band’s name, as he confessed in an interview from a few years ago: “It wasn’t entirely my idea to call the band Slipknot, it was a discussion between the band, something unified”.
