Michael Jackson: why did the King of Pop never visit Colombia?

15 years have passed since the death of one who is considered one of the icons of universal music, Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 at his mansion in Los Angeles, California.due to an overdose of the painkillers he regularly took to help him sleep.

Over the years many questions and myths have arisen based on the legendary singer, one of them is why Jackson never came to Colombia.

Why did Michael Jackson never come to Colombia?

The author of ‘Bad’, ‘Thriller’, ‘Black and white’, ‘Just beat it’, and a long repertoire of performances announced in 1992 a tour in honor of the great success of his eighth album, ‘Dangerous’.

The tour included 39 presentations in Europe, 19 in Asia and 11 in Latin America, where it was thought that Colombia was included.. During a report in this newspaper in that year, it was speculated that the country would have an advantage over its neighboring republics because the ‘Dangerous World Tour’ was sponsored by Pepsi, according to the company’s marketing manager at the time.

Despite the branch’s confidence in achieving Jackson’s visit to the Colombian capital, this initiative never came to fruition. Well The businessmen were unable to establish direct contact with the artist’s team, which made it difficult to start a negotiation.

Likewise, it is thought that another reason for his absence would have been logistical capacity, since Colombia did not have sufficient resources to cover a show of such magnitude. Stages, lights, locations and more could have been a trigger, as happened during the visit of Guns N’ Roses in April 1992.

In the country there were no instruments required for the event, the band had to bring the equipment from Miami, and the incessant weather affected the roof that protected the artists, according to businessman Julio Correal in an interview with ‘Vice’.

A third reason would have been the scourge of violence that plagued Colombia in the 1990s. Drug trafficking cartels were growing in alarming ways, paramilitarism had a resurgence and the FARC continued to implement command in several territories of the nation after the failed negotiations in El Caguán, which brought with it the highest levels of violence and the greatest number of attacks with the Public Force.

Finally, the king of pop only appeared in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico, which had the joy of seeing the star in a legendary show before his death in June 2009.
