Hole on the cover of ‘Celebrity Skin’
It is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words, and in this case it was a photo, or rather a carousel of photos published on social networks, which would be pointing to the meeting of holethe band that Courtney Lovewidow of Kurt Cobainled in two stages between the late 1980s and the beginning of the new millennium and then from 2009 to 2012.
In the mentioned image you can find Courtney Love and the one who was the bassist of the most successful era of his band, Melissa On The Edge Of The Worldwhich was also part of The Smashing Pumpkins. The words that pointed to the reunion in a London studio on June 13th were completed with a “together in the studio for the first time in 24 years”which has raised alarm bells about the possibility that a Hole reunion, which has been held up for the past decade, may finally happen.
It should be remembered that Hole released four albums in his career, with the guitarist Eric Erlandson accompanying Courtney on the first three and Melissa Auf Der Maur on drums Patty Schemel completing the most recognizable and classic formation of the band that reached the top with ‘Celebrity Skin’ in 1998; and a fourth album, ‘Nobody’s Daughter’from 2010, in which we only find the widow of the leader of Nirvana of that training.
The new images of Courtney and Melissa in a studio rekindle the flame of a meeting that has been on the verge of being fulfilled on several occasions in recent years, with statements about a return to work of the classical training in 2014 that did not end up coming together, something similar to what happened in 2016 after Love’s publication of images of the band and messages that pointed to the desire to reunite the band, or in 2019, when it was claimed that there were talks for this return.
Finally, in 2021, words arrived that ruined everything in an interview with the singer and guitarist with Vogue: “No, absolutely not. And you guys have to get over it. Our old manager, Peter Mensch, calls us once a year to ask about a meeting: “Hey, I’m just doing what I do every year with you and Jimmy Page“And I’m very honored to be in that company, but it’s not going to happen. We are all very good friends and Melissa and I are especially close, we talk every day. But Eric is a little off the grid at the moment, I think he’s in Japan literally becoming a monk. I’m not kidding. Melissa, Patty and I think he’s become a monk or something.”
It should be noted that the account that shared the photos of Courtney and Melissa is From Her to Eternitywhich is meant to “celebrate women’s contributions to music,” and Love is one of its trustees, so it could be a session dedicated to talking between two old good friends about their contributions to the world of culture.
