Former Health Ministers criticize “segmented” agreement for new reform

19 former ministers and former vice ministers of health signed a joint statement in which they criticize the negotiations between the government and the EPS unions to announce a new health reform project that was revealed last night by President Petro himself.

What do they say?

They complain that despite having asked for “consensus within the framework of a true democratic dialogue” they have not received a response from the government.

“The way these new conversations are developing are exclusive and segmented; which contradicts true citizen participation in a transcendental issue such as the health of citizens and the changes that improve the system that regulates and protects this fundamental right,” the statement says.

As La Silla recounted, the government’s strategy to agree on a new reform with the EPS unions was divided into carrot and stick: on the one hand, the intervention of the two EPS with the most users in the country and on the other, dialogues with the companies providing direct services with the Minister of Health, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo.

Fact: The statement of the former officials is signed by Augusto Galán, former Minister of Health and member of the board of directors of Sura; and Carmen Eugenia Dávila, former vice minister who resigned from Gestarsalud, the EPS union of the subsidized regime last week.

Both Sura and Gestarsalud signed the government’s statement of the agreement.

This is the full statement.
