The XIV Colloquium/Festival Nicolás Guillén 2024 began its sessions with a conference given in the Aula Magna of the University of Havana by Dr. Leonardo Sarría Muzio on poetry and myths in the work of the National Poet of Cuba.

In the welcoming words of Nicolás Hernández Guillén, president of the Foundation that bears the name of the Cuban intellectual, he reported that this year the meeting is dedicated to remembering a series of important works, among them the 90th anniversary of West Indies Ltd. and the 60s of the poetry collection Have.

The day, in which nearly one hundred Cuban and foreign specialists participate, will last from May 8 to 10 through a cycle of conferences and presentations of papers, which analyze the life and work of Guillén.

Along with the aforementioned poetry collections, the participants will also present their evaluations of Poesía de Amor, a notebook that reaches 60 years of age and Guillén’s journalism, especially his chronicles from the Pistos Manchegos section, which reach 100 years of its appearance. in the newspaper The Camagüeyan.

The academic meetings are hosted by the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), and their program highlights workshops on women, raciality and community work in vulnerable communities, among other topics.

At the Colloquium we will learn about the state of conservation and digitization of the Nicolás Guillén Archive at the Institute of Literature and Linguistics, and panels will be dedicated to the work of Nancy Morejón, to whom the event is also dedicated.

Present at the opening ceremony were the Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso Grau; Luis Morlote Rivas, official of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee of the Party and the ambassador of Mexico in Cuba, Miguel Díaz Reynoso and the vice-rector of the University of Havana, Dr. José Ángel Baujín Pérez, among other personalities.
