The member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State, Esteban Lazo Hernández, received this Wednesday the President of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Numan Kurtulmuş.

“Despite the geographical distances and language barriers, the ties between Cuba and Türkiye are advancing at a good pace and your visit today is proof of this, as well as the interest in increasing them to greater levels,” said Lazo Hernández.

At the National Capitol, he considered it a true pleasure to receive him at the institutional headquarters of Parliament, when the 72 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both governments are commemorated.

During the exchange, he expressed the sincere gratitude of our Party, Government and Cuban people, for their permanent support within the framework of the United Nations, demanding the end of the US blockade, “a cruel and genocidal policy that causes visible impacts and deficiencies to the population.” of the Greater Antilles.

To the President of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Numan Kurtulmuş, Lazo Hernandez ratified the commitment to expand, under principles of solidarity and cooperation, the existing links in fundamental areas such as education, culture, agriculture, biotechnology, health and energy sector.

Leading a parliamentary delegation from the Eurasian nation; The distinguished visitor stressed his satisfaction with the warm and hospitable welcome at the National Capitol, in a visit that he considered valuable and essential “in a friendly country, geographically distant but close in values ​​and principles for the benefit of its people.”

He also detailed the relevance of the work of the friendship groups created in both parliaments, timely and valuable, he said, to consolidate unity and brotherhood in current complex times.

“Sustaining and supporting these links between parliaments is a work priority for us in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye,” said Numan Kurtulmuş.

On his first visit to Cuba, and within official conversations with Esteban Lazo Hernández, the Turkish parliamentary leader demonstrated his interest in promoting cooperation agreements in key spheres for the development of their nations.

On the day, both ministers signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” that includes the formation of a working group to implement parliamentary cooperation provisions, conducive to deepening areas of politics, economy, trade, finance, science, education, culture, among others. others.

Also present were the vice president and the Secretary of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State, Ana María Mari Machado and Homero Acosta Álvarez, respectively, the member of the Council of State Yury Valdés Balbín, president of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Cuba-Türkiye; among other legislative officials and executives.

For its part, the delegation of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye also has the participation of deputy Selman Özboyaci, president of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba; and Vehbi Esgel Etensel, ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye in Havana.
