The Arica Prosecutor’s Office achieved a unanimous condemnatory verdict against JSM, a now former Army officerfor the crime of rape of a soldier after intoxicating her.

The prosecutor Luis Soriano, person in charge of the case, detailed that the events occurred on August 20, 2022. JSM lured the victim to his home under the pretext of a supposed birthday partywhich other people would attend.

Once there, he forced her to drink several adulterated tequila shots with a substance that left her unconscious. “Is a paradigmatic case of abuse of power by an active Army officer who was in charge of the instruction of a group of female soldiers,” said the persecutor.

“Under deception, he managed to get the young woman to go to his tax department, where he intoxicated her and sexually abused her,” added prosecutor Soriano.

After regaining consciousness, the victim managed to escape and ask for help at a nearby home. The injuries suffered were corroborated by the medical staff and the Legal Medical Service, which supported the accusation presented by the Prosecutor’s Office.

The detention

The investigation, carried out in collaboration with the Sexual Crimes Investigative Brigade of the PDI, allowed the arrest of the accused, who initially locked himself in his apartment to iTry to clean up the crime scene. However, he was captured and has remained in preventive detention since then.

The Oral Criminal Trial Court of Arica, in its Chamber 3, determined the guilt of JSM The reading of the sentence is scheduled for next Tuesday, June 4.
