Holguin. — Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of the Republic and member of the Political Bureau, urged this past Wednesday to maximize the economic potential of port and transportation infrastructure to promote development, during a dialogue with workers in these sectors in Antilla, municipality of Holguin.

During a visit to several socioeconomic objectives in the northeastern region, Marrero Cruz visited the port and spoke with the workers of the Business Units of the Caribe Navigation Base, Cuban Pilots and Mambisa Consignataria. He also reviewed the progress of the instructions given on his previous visit, ACN reported.

The Prime Minister emphasized to local authorities the importance of supporting the improvement of conditions in these areas, including a deteriorated dock and the installation of fuel storage tanks. These improvements could reduce freight transportation costs and speed up the delivery process.

In response to workers’ concerns, Marrero Cruz stated that their right to receive benefits when appropriate, to be paid on time, or to have decent working conditions should not be infringed due to the bureaucracy of some business systems. He suggested the formation of new state structures to address these problems.

In a meeting at the UEB Transporte Antilla, Eberto Tamayo Moreno, director of the entity, presented the achievements and concerns of the workers. Despite having seven technical means, the lack of fuel prevents them from operating efficiently.

The Prime Minister stated that privatization cannot be the solution to all problems and encouraged the use of revenue-generating initiatives such as the revival of bodywork services and collaboration with other organizations.

He also highlighted the need for institutions to be self-sufficient through agricultural production in orchards and plots, and to advance bankization by creating conditions in the workplace itself, such as extra cash.

Later, in the municipality of Gibara, where he was elected deputy to the Cuban Parliament, the head of government inaugurated the “Luces Martianas” daycare center in the Popular Council of Uñas, with capacity for 16 children. He also met with voters from constituencies 37 and 55 of the communities of Pedregoso and La Nasa.

Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province; Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, governor of Holguín; Sonia Chacón, deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power for Gibara, and other political and government authorities of the territory accompanied Marrero Cruz on his tour.
