Among the great battery manufacturers, a ‘efficiency career’ is underway. On the one hand, there is Byd, which a few weeks ago surprised the world presenting the super-e platform, capable of recharging 400 km of autonomy in just five minutes.
On the other, there is Catl, which at the doors of the inauguration of the Shanghai Auto Hall has surprised everyone by announcing the arrival of the new second generation accumulator Shenxing LFP, capable of recovering 2.5 km of autonomy for every second of recharge. But that’s not all.
Recharge in 5 minutes
In fact, Catl already announced several novelties in what could be called a ‘pre-show’. But let’s go. The most interesting news is the new generation battery debut Shenxing LFP. According to data declared by the Chinese giant, the accumulator should guarantee an autonomy of 800 km, for a maximum recharge power of more than 1.3 megawatts (MW).
What does this mean? That more than 520 km can be recovered in just five minutes, which is more than 100 km than byd, and do it in any meteorological condition. According to Catl, in fact, even 10 degrees below zero should be possible from 5 to 80% in just 15 minutes.

-Two batteries in one
The second novelty is the Freevoy Dual Power Battery, a special battery that combines two chemicals. It is assumed that it consists of LFP cells and also more durable and high density NMC cells, or NMC cells equipped with “self -generated anodes” instead of the classic graphite anodes. These, in fact, are able to significantly increase the energy density of the battery.
In a hypothetical daily use, the former would be the most used, while the high density would be used for longer paths. In fact, these are two batteries in one, with double management system, which according to Catl should guarantee an autonomy of 1,500 km.

Catl sodium ion batteries
Sodium ions ready for the series
The latest innovation presented by Catl is Naxtra, the first sodium ion battery manufactured in series, whose production is scheduled for December of this year. These are special batteries designed for electric cars and plug -in hybrids. For the first type of use, the declared autonomy is of the order of 200 km, while for pure electricity it is up to 500 km, thanks to an energy density of 175 Wh/kg.
Unlike lithium ion batteries, sodium ion batteries are expected to be more resistant to extreme temperatures. According to Catl, in fact, the Nextra should be able to maintain 93% of the usable capacity even at -30 ° C and up to 30 to 80% in 30 minutes at those temperatures.
