

An unfortunate fire in the Vereda La Victoria, a rural area of the municipality of El Peñón, Santander, resulted in the tragic death of a three -year -old boyidentified as Samuel Quiroga Rincón. The incident occurred around noon last Holy Saturday while the child was alone in his home.
According to their relatives, The child’s mother had gone briefly to a nearby storewhile the father was working on a cocoa culture with his eldest son. The authorities handle as the main hypothesis that the fire originated by A short circuit after the restoration of the electric service in the area, which had been previously suspended. The National Police have initiated the corresponding verifications to confirm this cause.
Colonel Gustavo Andrés Henao Sáenz, commander of the Santander Police Department, deeply lamented the fact. The child’s mother found him without vital signs when he returned to the house. Despite not presenting serious burns, it is presumed that little Samuel died by suffocation due to smoke inhalation.
The Quiroga Rincón family lost all its belongings in the fire. Given this difficult situation, neighbors of the Victoria and San Francisco Veredas have mobilized to organize solidarity days, collecting food and economic resources to support the family and cover the funeral expenses of the child.
