The conservative and ruler Popular Action party of Singapore (PAP) is on the way to getting an undisputed victory in the general elections of this Saturday according to an official first sampling that gives him an expectation of 80 percent of the intention to vote, translated into 87 of the 97 seats of Parliament.
The Pap started as an absolute favorite to the elections, taking into account that he has been directing Singapore since before the independence of 1965.
46 percent of the candidates who attended the elections represented the PAP, compared to the 26 of their greatest rival, the Workers’ party, and the great unknown of the elections consisted of finding out if Prime Minister Lawrence Wong could be compensated for the result of 2020, the lowest of the last decades for the party.
These elections thus represented the first fire test for the president, who assumed the position just a year ago after the resignation of Lee Hsien Loong, who led the country since 2004.
The vote is presented as “a referendum about Wong’s leadership,” said the general director of the consultant BowerGroupasia, Nydia Ngiow, in statements collected by Bloomberg.
