Delicias.- Jorge Ramírez Duarte, Coordinator of Territorial Planning, Urban Development and Environment, reported that the causes of the fire occurred on Tuesday afternoon behind the old Delicias Aviation Field, an event that caused strong air pollution and by which sanctions could be applied to those responsible.
He pointed out that the headquarters of the municipality carries out the inquiries on the incident, which consumed 500 disused tires and extended to five trailers parked in the place, causing important material losses.
Ramírez Duarte stressed that the municipality is responsible for initiating a detailed investigation to accurately determine the cause of the fire. He indicated that the fire originated in a lot of tires, which represents an inappropriate handling of waste, since they should not remain accumulated due to the risk they imply.
“Those tires should not be there, even less exposed. It is a critical situation, beyond how the fire has originated, the risk was already evident,” said the official.
He added that several workshops that use fuel operate, and that there was already an antecedent in the area, since months ago a similar incident occurred that also represented a danger.
The coordinator explained that other governmental instances could intervene, such as the State Government and the Federal Government, through Semarnat, due both to the air pollution caused by the burning of tires, and to the irregular disposition of the land uses of the companies established in the old aviation field.
He anticipated that those responsible for the fire could face administrative or economic sanctions, and even sanctions in kind, depending on the result of the exhaustive review by the municipal authority.
The fire began minutes before 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, which mobilized fire units and civil protection towards an old Aviation field, adjacent to a trailers workshop, to quell the flames.
Due to the nature of the burning material, there was a dense smoke visible to several kilometers, which generated alarms and concern among the inhabitants of Delicias and the region.
