CGE, a company of electric distribution that serves more than 3.2 million customers and Alto Chile agreed an alliance that will strengthen the persecution of the crime of theft of energy, a practice that harms the quality and continuity of the electric service for thousands of clients of the distributor.
The alliance between CGE and Alto Chile, a company specializing in criminal prosecution and decrease in crimes, seeks to increase the capacity for criminal prosecution for energy theft, interposing complaints and complaints against those responsible for this crime that affects the security and quality of the electric public service.
Both companies will strengthen actions with community awareness campaigns on the impact on the daily life that this crime produces, realizing that for CGE the security and quality of the service is a priority and one of its greatest concerns.

“This alliance reinforces our commitment as a company with our workers, customers and the community, strengthening security and fighting crimes, such as theft of energy, which affect the regular operation of the company,” said Ernesto Peñafiel Morgan, director of Legal Services of CGE.
To date, between 2024 and 2025 381 complaints and 482 complaints before the Public Ministry have been filed for the crime of theft of electricity. Criminal actions have focused on prosecuting the criminal responsibility of repeat offenders and those who put people and things at risk as a result of clandestine or fraudulent electrical connections.
“Within the framework of this alliance we have advanced in the implementation of a selective criminal prosecution strategy, combining the use of complaints and complaints, in order to relieve before the institutionality in charge of the persecution of the crime, the importance of theft of energy as a multi -fensive criminal phenomenon, which through irregular electrical installations can cause a serious affectation to communities and people. In the case of irregular connections, from January 2024 to date about 31,500 cases of energy theft in the CGE concession zone have been detected, which goes from the regions of Arica and Parinacota to La Araucanía. This has been possible thanks to the work of 300 brigades in the field.
