On Thursday May 8, the cardinals did their thing and elected a new pope: Robert Francis Prevost, the first-ever American to hold the title. Vatican City was packed with onlookers as white smoke billowed from the Sistine Chapel and the newly minted Pope Leo XIV preached of peace to the crowd. And who seemed to be in the area to hear his very first remarks as the pontiff? None other than Harry Styles.
In an image posted by Pop Crave, a Styles-esque person can be seen moving through the crowd, sporting a mustache and wearing sunglasses and a hat that reads “Techno is my boyfriend.” Interesting choice to wear so close to the Holy See. Now, could this photo be of an Italian Harry Styles doppelgänger and not the man himself? Sure. But I’d like to believe that out of all the places in the world, the former One Directioner chose to be in Rome, basking in the drama of the papal conclave.
Fans were quick to comment on Styles’ alleged attendance. One tweeted: “harry styles is so random, one day he’s at the grammys winning album of the year, then he’s running a marathon in japan, but he could also be in rome waiting for the announcement of the new pope, i love being his fan.” Another wrote, “Can’t believe the new pope got a glimpse of Harry styles on his first day of the new job.”
Styles is a man of many side quests, but I’m hoping the next place he’s spotted is leaving the studio. It’s been three years since the release of Harry’s Houseand I’m ready for more. Harry’s Basilica has a nice ring to it, no?
