The scientific societies that represent most medical professionals in Argentina alerted about a chronic deterioration of the Health system. In a report, 21 medical associations expressed concern about the current situation.
Dr. Pablo Stutzbach, president of the Argentine Society of Cardiology, said in dialogue with Chain 3 that “the word ‘crisis’ is not new in the health system.” He assured that the system has been in crisis for years and that the situation is more serious than in the past.
Stutzbach mentioned three factors that aggravate the situation: the aging of the population, the increase in treatments costs and the lack of human resources in the system. “Today we are in a situation we never had,” said the doctor.
The specialist explained that many patients require multiple medicines and expensive treatments. “The average expenditure on each patient is 500,000 to 600,000 pesos,” he explained. In addition, he stressed that medical devices are extremely expensive, with an average cost of $ 45,000.
The lack of human resources is one of the most critical problems. Stutzbach indicated that there are 15% of vacancies in medical residences and that 30% of residents leave their training in a year. “The training of new generations is not what it was before,” he said.
